Highly reputed architecture

Steve Roberts has gained extensive experience in a wide variety of architectural practices since he trained at Sheffield University between 1977 and 1983, and qualified with the RIBA in 1984 with whom he has retained chartered status ever since. Over that period, he has been involved in, or has been responsible for residential works varying from individual private houses and extensions through to large developments in excess of a hundred dwellings, leisure developments, commercial and industrial developments (including an extensive programme of bank fit-outs), schools (including a programme of school building maintenance), university buildings and hospital extensions.

Clients have included Local Authorities, Water Authorities, Universities, Health Authorities, Housing Associations, local and national housing developers, design and build contractors and banks as well as private individuals. Projects have involved new-build, refurbishment, extensions, maintenance and internal fit-out; they have included works to Listed Buildings and in Conservation Areas and National Parks. He has also carried out all phases of the building procurement process from inception and initial feasibility studies including site and viability assessments through the design stages (including applications for all necessary approvals) to obtaining and advising on tenders for the construction, site inspections and contract administration.

Steve can boast an impressive history in architecture. His working career commenced with a significant spell in South Wales at Alex Gordon Partnership, an award-winning Welsh practice whose founder was a past president of the RIBA, where he gained a wide grounding in the practice of architecture that has stood him in good stead in his subsequent career.

He subsequently worked for a while in the Midlands, predominantly carrying out projects for Housing Associations and then for a period with Leicestershire County Council. He then moved to Kent where, following a period as Associate Director of The Roger Wenn Partnership: a multi-disciplinary practice and then as Director of DRW Architects Ltd: a practice that focused on commercial residential projects throughout the Home Counties and the Midlands he decided to set up his own practice in January 2012.

This wide-ranging experience will allow him to apply this broad and extensive experience and expertise combined with a personal hands-on service to the success of your project. He has also worked on a variety of different projects, widening his skill set and expertise.

These have included:

  • A period in the Midlands carrying out various projects for several housing associations.
  • Leicestershire County Council – responsible for maintenance projects on a variety of education buildings.
  • Associate director of The Roger Wenn Partnership Ltd: a multi-disciplinary practice in Kent, responsible for commercial projects and leisure fit-outs.
  • Founding Partner and Director of DRW Architects Ltd: a practice that focused on residential projects throughout the Home Counties and the Midlands working with many of the major commercial housing developers.

Set up own practice focusing on residential and small to medium sized commercial projects.
